Sunderland’s only 24-hour House of Prayer has closed it’s doors, transforming into a ‘Virtual House of Prayer’ by primarily hosting services online.
The Park Road place of worship, Sunderland home of North East-based Bethshan Church, will now only open its doors on Friday nights and Sunday mornings.
Ashbrooke residents had grown used to seeing the Park Road church open at all times of day before a notice reading ‘All enquiries please ring on side door’ recently graced the steel shutter doors.

Michael McRae, Personal Assistant to the Assistant Pastors of Bethshan Church, said: “The House of Prayer has been running without pause for over three years now but, as you can imagine, having a centre where prayer is going on non-stop day and night is very demanding and requires a lot of manpower.
“As a church, we still believe very much in prayer and, as the church grows, it is our goal to increase the amount of time the centre is open for prayer bit-by-bit until 24/7 prayer is re-established.”
