ASDA’s blow-up Santa doll had its head punched off by a scrooge-like shopper in one of the more animated incidents of November crime in Grangetown.
Reporting at last nights Police & Community Together meeting at St. Aidan’s Church, Grangetown beat bobbies told residents that reported incidents of crime were down on the previous five weeks.
In the five weeks from November 10 to December 14 there was 32 reported incidents of crime in the Grangetown area. In the preceding five weeks, from October 6 to November 09, there was a total of 34 incidents reported.
Of those 32 incidents, 21 were related to the ASDA store on Leechmere Road, despite a constant police presence at the supermarket from December 10 to December 24. Crimes related to the ASDA store are, however, down on the previous five weeks.
Police also revealed there had also been three burglaries on homes in that period. Homes on Sea View Street, Stratford Avenue and Markham Street had been targeted respectively.
Worryingly for Christmas shoppers, the middle cash machine in the entrance of ASDA had been found to have a skimming device placed upon it, though officers did say any details theft can be prevented if you shield view of your selections when entering your PIN number.
The next Police & Community Together meeting at St. Aidan’s Church will be on January 19 at 6.30pm.
