Two brothers today appeared in court charged with the murder of Keith Redpath, the Hendon man who was stabbed in his home.

Ryan Ferguson, 18, of St Leonard Street, and Anthony Ferguson, 34, of Tower Street, faced magistrates accused of killing Mr Redpath.

Mr Redpath, 46, of Tower Street West, died in hospital from a single stab wound to his chest after he was attacked in his bungalow in the early hours of Saturday.

The Fergusons, who are brothers, were led into the dock in handcuffs for the brief hearing at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

They are jointly charged with Mr Redpath’s murder.

Flanked by three security guards, they spoke only to confirm their names, addresses, and dates of birth.

They entered no pleas and the case was adjourned.

No application for bail was made and they were remanded in custody. They will appear before a judge at Newcastle Crown Court later this month.

Northumbria Police earlier said Mr Redpath was injured after a number of people forced their way into the property at around 2am on Saturday.

The roofer, who had lived in Hendon for two months, collapsed in the street outside and was taken to Sunderland Royal Infirmary where he later died.
