Police are appealing for witnesses after three separate assaults took place around Villette Road on Friday night.
At around 9.20pm, a 16-year-old boy was attacked by a group of teens as he walked on Manila Road.
Fifteen minutes later, a man walking on Villette Road was attacked by three youths - a passer-by who tried to intervene was then attacked by the group.
Three youths aged 15, 16 and 17 have been arrested and bailed in connection with the attacks.
Neighbourhood Sgt Keith Goldsmith said: “I’d appeal for anyone who saw any of the incidents to contact police as soon as possible with information.
“We’re especially keen to speak to a member of the public who helped one of the victims by giving them a lift into town after the incident.
“We are carrying out extra patrols in the area and want to reassure the residents of Sunderland that violent behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities.”
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the attacks and who may have witnessed any of the incidents to contact police on 03456 043 043 ext 69191 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
