Littlewood’s owner Shop Direct is to make 900 jobs redundant from its Hendon call centre, according to reports.

The cuts are being made as customers increasingly use the Internet to make purchases, rather than the telephone, Shop Direct said in a statement.

Yeah, but with phone bills, TV bills, electricity, gas, etc. - who wants another bill at the end of the month? Buy on the Interwebs and it's a one-click pain-free impulse-driven transaction!

Can't argue with skint people are still skint, though.
  • Local job sites: news you can use. Well done guys.

What I fail to understand about the reason given by Shop Direct for the closures is the credit element: buy from a catalogue and you pay on the weekly or monthly, spreading the cost.

Buy on the Internet and pay in full before receiving the goods.

Skint people are still skint, aren't they?
