Will Superman fight in Man of Steel

Batman will share the screen with Superman in a planned Man of Steel sequel, but the superheros won't exactly be joining forces – in fact, they'll be at odds. After confirming last weekend at Comic-Con that the DC Comics characters would share the screen, director Zack Snyder said in a statement issued by Warner Bros. that they'll battle each other, Reuters reports.

"Let's face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world, " Snyder said.

Christopher Nolan, whose adaptations brought in more than $1 billion globally, will executive produce the film, and Warner Bros. says that Snyder is the perfect pick to direct.

"Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he's a fan first and he utterly gets this genre, " Greg Silverman, president of creative development at Warner Bros., said.

Although Superman movies have not always been successful in the theater, Snyder's portrayal of the complex and conflicted superhero has brought in $621 million since its release earlier this summer.

Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne will reprise their roles in the sequel, which is still unnamed.
